A: Some operating systems do not allow DOS programs to run in full screen.
If the window you are running the program in is too small, follow these instructions to
increase the window size.
Increasing the window with DOSBox
If you are using DOSBox to run Advantage Plus (the updated Advantage Plus with a starter program screen), see instructions for resizing the window here:
FAQ444: How do I increase the size of the window in DOSBox?
Steps to Run the Program in a Window:
- Close Advantage Plus.
- Right click on the Aplus icon on your desktop and choose PROPERTIES
from the list that pops up.
- On the PROPERTIES screen, click on the SCREEN tab.
- In the Usage section, click Window instead of Full Screen
- Click OK to close the PROPERTIES screen. You do not need to APPLY
these settings since they will be applied the next time you open
the program.
Steps to Increase the Window Size:
- Open Advantage Plus. It will open in a window that is very small.
- Right click on the blue strip at the top border of the Advantage
Plus window. This bar has the program name at the top left and the
dash, box and x at the right (these are common to every window in
all versions of Windows). From this menu choose PROPERTIES again.
This is a different set of properties from those of the icon.
- You should see a form with four tabs, Options, Font, Layout and Colors. Click on the FONT tab.
- In the middle vertically, select Lucida Console instead of Raster Fonts.
- Size 20 works on most monitors and is a good starting place.
Select the largest size that will allow the program window shown at the left of the sizes, to still fit within the screen.
Pay particular attention to the left and right edges of the small rectangle and make sure both sides are completely visible in the larger rectangle.
If it is too large, it will create scroll bars that will make the program difficult to use.
- Click OK when done and a window will open asking if you want to
use these settings for this one time or for all future windows
with this title. There are several variations of this wording, but choose
to save the window for all future windows with this title. Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not ask this question.
- If the resulting window is too small, just repeat until you get it
to where you are comfortable with it. If you make it too big, it will
make a horizontal scroll bar. If this happens, you will need to also
click on LAYOUT tab and make sure both settings are 80 by 25, after
you change the size to a smaller setting.
